Bambu Indah is a radically distinctive boutique hotel in Ubud, carefully curated by designers and long term residents of Bali, John and Cynthia Hardy. In 2005, eleven antique Javanese bridal homes were brought to Bali, restored, and decorated with the finest details. Since then, we have expanded the property to the riverside, where we are pioneering a sustainable future with innovative, bespoke and luxurious bamboo structures for a truly one a kind experience. Now, Bambu Indah is available to travelers from around the world seeking unique experiences while being comforted by the luxury of a natural environment and service of an intimate hotel.

From the Beginning

In 2005, we brought eleven antique Javanese Bridal homes to Bali and began decorating them with objects and textiles collected from around the world, with the intention of hosting our family and closest friends who had travelled around the world to visit us. We wanted them to be surrounded by the rich creativity and the history of Indonesia, while being comforted by the luxury and service of a boutique hotel.

(GARDED) BED OVER BUSHES

Any respectable institution has manicured bushes and a flower garden, we did too.. Until we realized that we could be growing food. Food from our land directly to our tables. We work on an incentive program where we buy the produce from our gardeners so that they may earn more than salary based on crop yields. Not only are our garden beds bursting with delicious greens, but our guests get to reimagine how they may live their own lives and some have even shared that they went home and dug up their lawns to plant tomatoes. Maybe you can too.

GREEN EDUCATION

In 2008, John and Cynthia founded the globally renowned Green School. They built an incredible bamboo campus that combines cutting- edge technology with traditional materials and building method. The results is a truly inspirational teaching and learning environment that stimulates critical thinking and creative problem solving.

GROWTH

In 2012, after Elora Hardy's wedding, we realized Bambu Indah has far greater potential than we had been accessing and decided to expand from 4-16 rooms. We created a world class kitchen, designed by Ibuku, making home cooked organic Balinese meals, and incorporated the experiences that the Hardy family treasures, such as early morning rice padi walks, Balinese blessing on the deck, yoga classes with local teachers, and lazy afternoons by the spring water pools, available to our guests.

THE RIVER EXPERIENCE

Beginning in 2016 we expanded the Bambu Indah dream down to the riverside, where open air bamboo houses fully immerse you in the intense power of the river, while being comfortably nuzzled in plush cotton duvets. We truly let our imagination run wild with spring fed pools, hanging moon chairs, and a bamboo pod quite literally suspended over the roaring river.

RUSTIC JUNGLE TENTS

Don't take this romantic title too lightly, for these tents sit on floating platform at the peak of a cliff overlooking the valley. Through a spiral staircase hugging the cliff you will reach your destination - camping reimagined. Your bed is enclosed by a retractable mosquito net, resembling an oversized fruit basket, an air conditioning unit and fan, a woven bamboo roof, and view to die for. For the lovers, the adventures, the dreamers and the daring, who wish to be fully immersed in Bali's magic.

Today

Staying with us Bambu Indah is an experience like no other; one that has transformed over the years as we continue to imagine and reimagine the world around us. But some things will always stay the same, our commitment to preserving and promoting the environment, our delicious and organic farm to table food, our dedication to innovative and groundbreaking sustainable design, our desire to immerse you in the magic of Bali and welcome you as part of our family .
