Since his teenage years, Gerry has been fascinated with photography. It helped him develop his ability to connect more with nature and empowered his strength to come out in his comfort zone. So even when he started working in a digital media company for five years as an electrical technician in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, he never ceased taking snapshots.

Macro photography is Gerry’s expertise. He is fond of capturing insects, their segmented and exoskeleton bodies. Through it, he can show their most truthful nature. Patience is indeed a virtue as taking close-up pictures of live animals, and insects can be very challenging. “Even if you are distant, subjects have a habit of flying or scurrying away before you’ve had the chance to trigger your shutter. Using a tripod can help; however, you will need to shoot your macro photos handheld most of the time. Although taking handheld photographs might not be easy, great results are still possible with the right combination of good techniques, patience, and persistence”, as per Gerry. “Insects are likely to react to sudden movement or vibrations, so if you move your hand to the lens barrel to adjust its focus, do it slowly. If your subject begins to move, stay still and wait for it to settle again before resuming your approach. Even if you do not disturb your subject, they might fly away due to being disturbed by another insect, or simply because they finished eating or basking”, he added.

Photography can change the way we see things. If we look at them through the lens of gratitude combined with patience and persistence, we will appreciate our life even more.
