Initially, organic food seemed to be a craze, but with people leaning towards the green side, it looks like organic is here to stay. Not to be confused with vegan, organic means that food items are produced using processes without synthetic fertilizers, preservatives, pesticides, and environmentally and animal-friendly farming methods.
The movement has caught on in the Middle East, and one popular food destination in Dubai is MyFarm in Al Khawaneej, where the owner grows and harvests organic fruits, veggies, herbs, and spices used in cooking. “This ensures fresh ingredients,” says Mohammed Aissaoui, owner, specialist of organic Garden and Permaculture Consultant, a fifth-generation farmer from France who abandoned his engineering career to pursue: farming. My Farm Dubai is leading the agrarian movement by launching a self-sustaining eco-farm.
Aside from growing diverse agricultural produce, Mohammed also educates visitors on the UAE’s unique and thriving farming heritage. The farm takes visitors on an informative agricultural journey where they will learn and taste all types of fruits, vegetables, and honey and the medicinal attributes with an abundance of herbs and spices. It is an excel lent introduction to organic farming, making it a must-attend attraction for those looking to do something different and curious about living a healthy lifestyle. The two-hour experience offers a fantastic nature escape, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
MyFarm utilizes numerous circular systems, crucial to attaining food safety goals in Dubai, one of the most important being the seeds. Only heirloom variations are grown at the farm as those are the ones that give its products a desired natural taste, for instance. The farmers check which varieties can proliferate in the desert, then those are sown each season, and part of their seeds are set aside for the next season, allowing them to adapt to the climate. And just as farming seasons differ, so does farming in different countries. While the desert has a different environment, it also offers many advantages. Mohammad strongly believes that UAE can become a prominent exporter of organic products.
MyFarm promotes innovative farming with the aid of trained farmers, making healthy, organic produce readily available for public consumption. There is also a wide variety of soaps, offering delightful gifts for family and friends. Lastly, it offers an opportunity to try an alternative lifestyle, a memorable experience offering an exciting smorgasbord of organic edibles. The freshest ingredients are combined to produce a sumptuous meal never seen in the market. A healthy option, indeed!
